CRRA Introduces Phillup D. Bag,
Connecticut's Junk Mail Recycling Mascot

Learn how to shred it, bag it, curb it at PhillupDBag.com

[Hartford, Conn., April 3, 2007] - He's 6 feet tall, square, craft-paper brown and huggable. His "hair" is shredded paper dreadlocks. He loves to meet kids and families.

And he's on a mission: to help Connecticut's residents securely recycle the piles of unsolicited mail they receive every day. In a word, how to "punk" their junk mail - and continue to reduce what goes into our state's solid waste sites - by shredding, bagging and placing unwanted mail inside their curbside recycling bins.

Today, the Connecticut Resources Recovery Authority (CRRA) - which provides solid waste disposal and recycling services to more than 100 municipalities in the state - introduced Phillup D. Bag, a fresh new face in our efforts to convert used paper into new, useful products.

Phillup's new Web site, PhillupDBag.com, offers children a fascinating way to learn about why recycling junk mail is so important. Adults will learn about the importance of safely shredding junk mail, and how to reduce the amount of junk mail they receive. Teachers can use the site's "Recyclopedia" to gather fun facts and questions to use in their classrooms.

About CRRA
The Connecticut Resources Recovery Authority (CRRA) is a quasi-public agency of the State of Connecticut that has made a major commitment to trash-to-energy plants, recycling and safe, modern, engineered landfills.

CRRA works for, and in the best interests of the state's municipalities by implementing environmentally sound solutions and best practices for solid waste disposal and recycling management. CRRA's four solid waste projects serve 118 Connecticut cities and towns. CRRA also runs environmental and recycling educational programs through the CRRA Trash Museum in Hartford and the CRRA Garbage Museum in Stratford.
