Phillup D. Bag

About Phillup D. Bag
CRRA created Phillup D. Bag - a lovable, friendly, oversized mascot - to:

  • Teach adults and children what types of junk mail can be recycled
  • How to safely recycle junk mail and protect oneself from identity theft
  • Why collecting and disposing of junk mail should be an important part the family's overall recycling activities

Mascot characters are a popular and effective way to help our kids learn to take care of the environment, and encourage their parents to do the same! CRRA's Phillup D. Bag junk mail recycling mascot was created in the spirit of the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection's beloved "Ray Cycle" character, which has helped educate thousands of school children about the importance of recycling.

Phillup's community outreach
Phillup D. Bag is available on a limited basis for appearances at community group meetings and special events in towns served by CRRA's Mid-Connecticut Project. Please fill out this form to tell us more about your event and why you think an appearance by Phillup will help your kids and adults increase their recycling activities.

Junk mail paper.
More options for recycling.
Connecticut residents recycle more than 624,000 tons of paper waste. But they also threw out thousands of tons of paper that could be recycled, including junk mail. Many don't realize that magazines, newspapers, catalogues and mixed paper paperboard, such as cereal and tissue boxes can be recycled together in a paper bag.

We need to recover every ton of paper that we can right now. Fortunately, our options to recycle different types of paper (and other materials) are expanding. At the same time, new, modern recycling equipment at CRRA's recycling facilities will increase the types and sizes of mixed paper items that we can recycle.

What kind of junk mail can be recycled?
Bills and bill inserts

Shredded office paper

What junk mail materials cannot be recycled?
