stuff you can do
stuff you can do - what you can do
There's lot of stuff that you can
do to help protect the earth - and
one of the easiest is recycling your family's junk mail!

But there are important things you need to know about recycling junk mail before you start. Here are the steps you should follow:

SHRED IT

1.Sit down with your family at mail time and help them sort through the mail. Have an adult explain to you why some things are junk mail and others are not.

  • Click here for a list of things you can recycle.
  • Click here for more reasons why you need to ask before you bag it!

2.Once you have a pile of junk mail that is OK to recycle, have an adult shred, cut up or tear up those pieces that have personal information that you don't want anyone else to see. Remember, this is an adult's job! (Click here for more on what items should be shredded or torn up.)

BAG IT

3.After the mail is shredded, put the pieces of paper into a brown paper grocery bag. You can put all this paper in the same bag with the newspapers you're recycling.

4.Put the grocery bag in your family's recycling bin.

CURB IT

5.On trash collection day, put your recycling bin on the curb.

It's that easy!
